Area of application
In accordance with the Rules for classification and construction of seagoing vessels of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping the fixed aerosol fire-extinguishing system is used for protection of the following spaces:
- engine rooms;
- command posts;
- rooms which can be considered engine rooms such as rooms for emergency diesel generators;
- engine rooms without permanent watch on duty which house propulsion electric motors or steam engines or steam turbines with a capacity of at least 375 kW;
- storage rooms for highly flammable materials and substances- paint lockers with flammable liquids, for flammable liquefied and high-pressure gases, fuel distribution stations, etc.;
- hangars and spaces with equipment for fuelling and servicing helicopters;
- working spaces – such spaces on board of special purpose vessels which are neither engine rooms nor parts of them, such as manufacturing workshops, laboratories and other similar spaces and also wells leading to such spaces where liquid fuel and flammable liquids are used or flammable materials are processed;
- spaces for separators, liquid fuel plants, any equipment used for preparation and supply of (warmed up or unwarmed) liquid fuel to the boiler, for a generator of a noble gas or for an engine (including gas turbines) which may comprise fuel pumps, separators, filters and heaters under the pressure of 0.18 MPa as well as hydraulic plants containing flammable fluids under the working pressure of more than 1.5 MPa which are not parts of main and auxiliary machinery, boilers, etc.
In accordance with the Rules for classification and construction of vessels of the Russian River Register the aerosol fire-extinguishing system is used for protection of the following spaces:
- engine rooms for main and auxiliary engines and emergency diesel generators and boilers running on liquid fuel, for fire protection pumps;
- engine rooms for generators and emergency energy sources, main and auxiliary distribution switchboards, electric motors (including propulsion electric motors) and ventilation systems for this equipment;
- spaces with fuel and oil tanks (main storage, daily supply, drainage collecting, sludge collecting), tanks for collection of bilge water, cofferdams;
- storage spaces for liquefied and pressurized gases, highly-flammable liquids, materials or substances;
- closed spaces for highly-flammable substances and materials;
- cargo pump houses on board of liquid cargo vessels.
